Nissan Terra, Peugeot Onyx Ready for Paris Show...Ford Opts for Lithium...
National Plug In Day


Nissan announced the debut of its Terra Fuel Cell vehicle for the upcoming Paris Motor Show, where the Peugeot Onyx hybrid will also be on display. Ford will begin using Lithium, instead of rare earth elements, in its hybrid and electric cars. National Plug In Day will be celebrated in more than 30 U.S. cities on Sept. 23.

Nissan Terra
Spokespersons for Nissan say the Terra crossover fuel cell SUV is evidence that the Japanese automaker is ready to produce a hydrogen car once the infrastructure ramps up. The four-seat Terra features a unique seating arrangement, placing the driver alone in front of three passengers. Peugeot Onyx
The Peugeot Onyx diesel-hybrid concept car will debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month. The Onyx has a carbon fiber and copper body, acrylic windows, and weighs 2,400 pounds. The 3.7-liter V8, six-speed has a combined horse-power of over 650. Peugeot says the copper exterior was chosen due to the metal's ability to change color over time. Ford Switching to Lithium
Ford Motor Co. has announced that it will be switching from rare earth metals to lithium in its hybrid and electric cars, notably the C-Max hybrid and the Fusion hybrid. The company says the change will cut rare earth element consumption by 500,000 pounds each year and reduce production costs by several hundred dollars per vehicle. National Plug In Day

The second annual National Plug In Day will take place on Sunday, Sept. 23, celebrating electric and hybrid vehicles.
