For centuries the healing properties of plants & food has been known ~ but in recent years the drug companies seem to have weened us off them & onto their prepared mixtures.  Of course you should use your best judgement when an emergency occurs!

Plant Ailment & Remedy
Carrot When eaten provides relief from both constipation & diarrhoea.
Carrot Apply a raw carrot poultice (a mash) to help heal wounds, burns, whitlows, boils, abscesses, chilblains, chapped skin, cold sores & eczema.
Cabbage Wash the affected areas of ulcers, burns, bites, cold sores & acne in cabbage juice.  A poultice is a great antiseptic on wounds, burns, blisters, stings, cold sores & swollen joints.
Cucumber A slice of cucumber is great for tired and puffy eyes & is soothing on sun-burn, minor burns & inflamed skin such as eczema, hives & insect bites.
Eggs Eggwhites for soothing irritated skin, minor burns, sunburn & nappy rash.
Eggs Eggwhites are an old remedy for sprains & whitlows.
Eggs Eggwhites sooth the mucous membranes or the stomach & bowel & help treat heartburn, indigestion, constipation & diarrhoea.
Garlic Garlic is an antibiotic, ideal for the treatment & prevention of colds & flu.  Crush a clove & mix with honey to make a soothing cough mixture.  This can assist to ward off colds & soothe sore throats & ease other respiratory infections.
Eat some parsley afterwards to get rid off that smelly breathe!
Garlic Olive oil with some crushed garlic is beneficial for cuts, sprains, insect stings & bites, rheumatism, inflamed joints & rubbed into the chest relieves coughs & chest infections.
Honey Honey is an antiseptic - place on wounds can assist in the healing process and fight off infection.
Honey Mix honey with lemon juice in a cup of boiling water making a soothing hot drink to relieve colds, fevers & coughs.
Olive Oil Used with garlic, as above, olive oil is also helpful with heartburn, indigestion, gastritis, wind, peptic ulcers, constipation, laryngitis and harsh dry coughs.
Onion Use onions antiseptic qualities against colds, influenza, sore throats, coughs, sinusitis, catarrh & respiratory ailments - chop a raw onion, drizzle with honey & leave overnight - take a dessert spoonful every few hours.
Onion Useful in the diet of people feeling fatigued & with anaemia, arthritis, gout, diabetes, a history of kidney stones and water retention problems.
Onion Rub an cut onion on a bee sting for immediate relief. (Use antihistamines to reduce swelling and avoid reactions)
